LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the next important step in mobile radio communications, and will be introduced in 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 8.
Launched in 2004, the objective being to create LTE average user performance 3-4 times the levels of HSDPA launch the 6 in the downlink (100Mbps), and 2.3 times the levels of the uplink HSUPA (50Mbps). In addition, the goals of LTE include improving spectral efficiency, reduce costs, improve services, making use of spectrum and new spectrum opportunities reformulated, and better integration with other standards.
E-UTRA/OFDMA, IP and IMS
LTE uses the Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) air interface, which is based on OFDMA and is more advanced than the TDMA used in GSM and CDMA networks used GSM / UMTS and CDMA2000.
In addition, instead of packages of ownership structures, LTE is fully based on IP packets, and travel voice over IP (VoIP). Part IP LTE is called "Evolved Packet System (EPS), formerly known as" System Architecture Evolution (SAE).
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) which offers an integrated framework for all IP communications, is also integrated into LTE.
Benefits
The main advantages are LTE High performance, low latency, plug-and - play, FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) and TDD (Time Division Duplex) on the same platform, to improve the experience simple user and architecture that results in reduced operating costs (OPEX). LTE will also support seamless connection with existing networks such as GSM, CDMA and WCDMA.
LTE also appear in a number of different bands around the world, including the 2.6 GHz band is perfect like a bunch of capacity that operators are able to ensure maximum 2 × 20 MHz of spectrum. LTE will also appear in the GSM bands reformulated in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz, providing superior coverage and global roaming in the rest of the 3GPP market.
Technology Demonstrations
• In September 2006, Siemens Networks has shown, in collaboration with research emulation Nomor living first in a network to the LTE press and investors.
• In February 2007, Ericsson has been introduced in the world with speeds up LTE 144 Mbit / s.
• In September 2007, NTT DoCoMo has demonstrated LTE speeds of 200 Mbit / s with power consumption below 100 mW for the test.
• In December 2007, Nokia Siemens Networks announced that a study of Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless data network, which reaches data rates up up to 173 megabits per second (Mbps).
• In April 2008, Ericsson introduced its platform mobile M700, commercially available capacity for the first LTE platform with peak flows up to 100 Mbit / s downlink and 50 Mbit / s upstream. The platform can be used for producing data carriers, such as laptop modems, ExpressCards and USB modems for laptops, modems and other small form appropriate for consumer electronic devices. The commercial launch is planned for 2009, with products based on the platform in 2010.
Carrier Adoption
Other companies support HSUPA networks such as GSM or Rogers Wireless, AT & T, TeliaSonera, T-Mobile, Vodafone, France Telecom and Telecom Italia Mobile have also publicly announced or talked about his commitment to LTE and can be expected to upgrade their networks to LTE some point in the near future.
Verizon Wireless is currently testing its LTE network and selects Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as network providers first Plan to LTE Network. In addition, co-owner Vodafone, which plans to conduct field trials of LTE in this year.
MetroPCS, Telus Mobility, China Telecom / Unicom and KDDI in Japan have announced they have chosen LTE as 4G network technology.
Earlier this year, Huawei signed contracts with TeliaSonera for the first commercial network building LTE. Following the agreement, Huawei will provide a solution to end LTE end, including stations Basic LTE, core network and OSS (Operations Support System). It also provides services including network design, implementation, integration and support systems. TeliaSonera is also joining hands with Ericsson commercial LTE network.
